What Is Your Skincare Routine?

Skincare has always been important to me for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I never wanted to be ashy. I didn’t like ashy elbows or knees and as I got older, I definitely didn’t like ashy hands or feet. I was never too particular about my face as I was about my body. However, the older I’ve gotten, I’ve begun to be more intentional about my facial skin. It’s just as important as the rest of my skin. It’s one of the first things people see when they meet you. Plus, aging is inevitable so why not age gracefully and beautifully.

I wanted to share my skincare routine with you in hopes that I could encourage you to either begin your own routine or to try new products in your current routine. The products below I have either used for years or I have just started a few months ago (I’m always trying new products on my face as I have yet to find the perfect one(s)).

Full Body Skincare

I love an emollient-rich body lotion. I also love one that is naturally scented. I avoid harsh, toxic chemicals like parabens, phthalates and sulfates on my skin. I was looking for a hand cream and I somehow stumbled across this one in Whole Foods and I haven’t looked back since. I now use it as a body lotion. I can no longer find it in the convenient squeeze tube so I carry some in a small travel size tube for my hands. It’s made with shea butter, soy-milk frankincense and myrrh. The smell is so delightful and it keeps my skin soft and moisturized throughout the day.

My Nubian Heritage Raw Shea Butter body lotion does the trick but I need to be sure my feet are extra soft so I use petroleum jelly to seal in the moisture. I also use it on my legs when I’m wearing shorts or a skirt to give them that extra sexy look. And I occasionally use it on my lips too.

 Facial Skincare

This one is a little tricky. I haven’t taken care of my face over the years as much as I should. In the past, I just cleaned it with a wash cloth and would use drugstore brand makeup removers.   I’ve used Noxema to high-end brands sold in Sephora…of course I can’t name one. However, the products below have been working great the last few months. They aren’t drying or abrasive to my skin and I’ve noticed less breakouts. I use the cleanser to remove my makeup, and the cream as a moisture. Plus, you can never go wrong with witch hazel which I use as a cleanser as well especially now that we have to wear face masks which is a breeding ground for bacteria. I’ve actually always had it in my bathroom cabinet; however, I just decided a week ago to make it a part of my daily routine. I love it! I plan to start incorporating a monthly facial in my routine as well.
